What is a model here, what is a measurement, and how to tell them apart

One desk writes this. The byline says the treasury desk rather than a name, because what should carry weight is the arithmetic and not the person doing it.

The distinction that matters most on this site is between a model and a measurement, and we mark it explicitly. A model is stated with its inputs attached: the runway tables here run on a stated cash balance, a stated starting burn and a stated growth term, and every one of those is a number you can change in the calculator on the page. A measurement comes from a public source with a link and a date.

Where something is neither, it is labelled as a guess. That happens more often than it does in most writing on this subject, because the honest state of a lot of startup finance is that nobody has published the data.

We do not take money from banks, providers or funds, there are no affiliate links, and no company has ever been added to or removed from anything here at its own request.

Nothing on this site is financial advice. A model on a website cannot see your revenue recognition, your covenants or your payment timing, and if the numbers are close enough to matter a finance person should be reading your ledger instead.
